Learder and Me Introduction

August 26, 2013

Dear Parents,

Wow!   It seems like just yesterday we were having end of the year parties and now a new year is beginning-the time sure flies by!  Your children are now 2nd graders and I am pleased to announce that I will be your child’s teacher this year. However, Mrs. Telese will be covering my class until September 17,2013. I hope to keep you informed by sending you Newsletter updates and by checking my website. This year we will be engaged on learning our new focus, The Leader In Me. Our new program will teach your child a willingness to prepare themselves for the future.

In order to ensure that things run smoothly this year, I would like to fill you in on some of my classroom procedures.  I expect nothing more than the best behavior in my class; otherwise I will be calling parents or sending home a note. Second Grade is very important and this year we will begin teaching towards the STAAR, which requires the utmost from your children.

With this Newsletter I hope to keep you abreast with all our activities and curriculum. I hope to be able to give you as much information as I possibly can to ensure that you are assisting and supporting your child with their learning.

Students will be sent home daily with a folder containing Reading, Spelling and Math Homework, except for Fridays. I challenge my students to read the story of the week because they are tested every week. I cannot stress the importance of learning their addition facts, so they will and must practice those daily. Attached you will find a document explaining how to do Touch Math, which will make addition and subtraction much easier and enjoyable.  For the first weeks students will have a print out of their homework, but your child will be responsible for writing their assignments and homework as the year progresses. Please make sure to sign their Homework sheet, in awareness of their duties. As a consequence for not completing homework, students are not allowed to participate in games or leisure classroom activities until homework is complete.

Reading is very important to our class, so I will be sending home Fluency Charts so you can practice and test your child at home.

I greatly appreciate all the preparations you have made for this school year and I thank you for sending all the necessary materials your child will need to participate in class. This year we will need a  1 ½ inch binder(Blue) for homework, 2 composition books and a plastic box to place colors.  I look forward to teaching your children and I hope to work closely with you as well.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns at 956-254-5210 ext. 3424 during my conference hour (10:45 – 11:30 a.m.) email -Jruiz@lfcisd.net

                                                                                    Yours sincerely,

                                                                          J. Ruiz-Gonzalez, DRE,  Third Grade
